4 Journaling Prompts for a Transformative New Year

The New Year presents a period of deeper reflection for many, to slow down and take time to consider how we'd like to approach the next twelve months. But it can also be a challenging time where we feel like we haven't done enough. We tend to hold ourselves to the confines of upward mobility and progress. Sahaj Kaur Kohli says, "Allow yourself to grow out. Grow in. Root."

Before we dive into the 2023 journal prompts, I want you to think about what you're most proud of yourself for from the last year? What were some moments of gratitude? What are some of the ways you've grown or changed since January 2022?

Now, we're sharing 4 journaling prompts to give you space to reflect and set meaningful intentions for a transformative year.

1. Over the next twelve months, what would you like to become more intentional about?

Consider what area of your life needs extra love, motivation or nurturing. Use the pages in your journal to work through the daily habits and patterns you'd like to form, think about who adds value to your life, and how to make your dreams a reality. Be intentional about what you want to achieve.

2. If your desire has come true or manifested in reality, how would your life change or transform?

Now that you have clarity from the first prompt, imagine what your life would look like if you achieved your goals or desires. How would your life transform, improve or change?

3. Consider where you want to be by the end of the year. What's one small action you can take each day to bring you closer to achieving it?

Small daily actions can bring about huge change in our lives. Write down your overarching goals for the year and think about the smaller actionable steps you can take to achieve them. This will put you on a path towards your goals.

"In the long run, the quality of our lives often depends on the quality of our small choices."

- Erik Hamre

4. What does happiness feel like for you? How can you feel happier more often?

Happiness means something different to each person. There is no right answer for everyone. What brings you joy? Think about the big and small things that bring you contentment and peace. This prompt helps you get clarity on where to invest more time and energy in what matters most to you this year. So, how can you free up space this year for more happiness and joy?
