Positive self-talk that works for you

Positive self-talk, or affirmations, are helpful tools to disrupt negative thought patterns. As I'm sure you've heard before, our words have power. Positive words - especially spoken out loud - have the power to change our lives. Both our internal and external dialogue can change the course of our mood and the overall direction of our day. We can be our own worst enemy sometimes and our internal dialogue can be very limiting. Studies have shown that positive self-talk can rewire our brains through a process called neuroplasticity. Neuroplasticity is essentially our brains ability to change and adapt based on our experiences. As children, we were able to do this a lot easier but as we get older, we get stuck in certain thought patterns and it becomes harder for us to change our ways.

If you're experiencing a disempowering thought, like "I'll never get that promotion," affirmations will help you recognize the negative thoughts and self-imposed limitations, and shift your mindset to a positive and constructive space.

The new year is a great time to set affirmations, but you don't need a new year for this to work for you!
